The Henley-on-Todd Regatta is held annually in August on the dry river bed of the Todd River right in the heart of Alice. The regatta features a range of events including the mixed yachting race, sand shoveling tournament, the bath tub derby, and the head of the river race and culminates with the extravagant battle boat spectacular grand finale. All event proceeds go towards various charities making this a fun filled family day not to be missed.
Pioneer Park Racecourse holds an assortment of events throughout the year such as the Family Fun Day, Ladies Day and the annual Alice Springs Cup Carnival. Alice Springs Cup Carnival is held throughout April with a variety of events and luncheons for all of Alice to enjoy. A highlight of the carnival is Young Guns Day which swings into full force with entertainment on and off the track. This event is one of the biggest social events of the year, and Territorians aged between 18 and 35 party the day away in the Young Guns Marquee. Ladies Day is one of the most popular days on Alice’s events calendar - a time for the girls to slip into their best frocks, pop the bubbly and strut their stuff at the Ladies Luncheon. The Cup also includes a Kids Day Out offering games, jumping castle, face painting, children’s fashion show and rides to keep the children of Alice entertained. The Alice Cup Carnival concludes on the first Monday in May (holiday Territory public holiday) with the running of the XXXX Gold Alice Springs Cup.
The unique lifestyle of Alice Springs is displayed at the annual Lions Camel Cup that draws spectators from all over the world. This event offers locals and visitors alike camel races, live entertainment, markets, kids’ activities, a fashion parade to crown the annual Mr and Miss Camel Cup, as well as the Honeymoon Handicap and the Kids Kamel Kapers hobby race. The Camel Cup is one of Alice Springs most anticipated social events and should not be missed.
